It is with hearfelt sadness, the Breastfeeding Hawai'i Board shares that Dr. Sylvia Pager passed away on February 8th, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Sylvia was our physician champion, passionate supporter, promoter and protector of breastfeeding families in Hawai'i. She was a founding member of Breastfeeding Hawai'i and served on the board until her passing. She was the first International Board Certified Laction Consultant Physician in Hawai'i. Dr. Pager was also a Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and American Academy of Pediatrics. She served on the board of Hawai'i Mothers Milk, Inc. Dr. Pager was active at the Hawai'i State legislature, helping to support legislation on Breastfeeding in Public and Breastfeeding in the Workplace. On the day she fell ill, Sylvia had just testified in support of the Paid Family Leave Bill (HB 496 with companion bill in Senate SB965). Her family and colleagues will miss her enthusiasm for life and wonderful loving personality!
